The Quay (Newport Harbour)

This bench was installed in 2020.

Harbour Masters Office. Bronze plaque from 1990, commemorating the 50th anniversary of the small ships that sailed from Newport Harbour to Dunkirk.

On the red brick building which is attached to the modern Riverside Centre.

Drinking fountain in memory of Sir John Stephen Barrington Simeon. Made of Aberdeen granite.

You can’t move in Newport for memorials to Sir John. There is the trough at the top of the High Street where it turns into Carisbrooke Road. Then the memorial next to the triangle of grass that separates the start of Castle Road from Carisbrooke Road.

The National Portrait Gallery has his image.

The Propeller

Plaque commemorating the visit of Queen Elizabeth II to Newport on 26 July 1965.

I’ve decided to snub the Duck Snub.
