In 2023 I wrote a novel. In 2024 I edited it and sent submissions to literary agents. I didn’t cheat the odds.
From the autumn of 2024 to the spring of 2025 I wrote a second novel.
While I navigate this process of trying to get published, I created this website as an outlet for my research and writing skills.
I came across this passage while reading ‘The Essential T. C. Lethbridge’, (1980, Routledge and Kegan Paul). It sums up my thoughts perfectly:
“Why does anyone write books at all? The answer is that they are compelled to do so by the natural urge to create. They cannot make a living at it. It wastes enormous energy. But they have, like the lemmings of Norway, to obey the call which drives them to the sea.”
Some other reasons why I write novels:
• It’s fun to be creative.
• It’s a positive way to use my free time.
• To put my voice into the world.
• It’s difficult. If it was easy I wouldn’t have been interested.
• I wanted the intellectual challenge of learning a new craft.
• I wanted to role model to my daughter how to set yourself a goal and try to achieve it.
